Tasmanian Jade & birdseye huon pine box
An exceptional, solid piece of Tasmanian Jade meticulously carved into a box, with a salvaged Tasmanian birdseye huon pine inset lid. This piece is truly spectacular, with both materials only being found on the West coast of Tasmania.
The inside of the box is lined with a beautiful, soft black felt.
measurements - 18cm x 12cm x 5.5cm

Tasmanian Jade comes from a short stretch of coastline near Trial Harbour on the West Coast of Tasmania. Geologically speaking the mineral should not have occurred where it did, making it even more special. Originally the material was a Serpentine, which over a long period of time was heated and changed composition into the Nephrite Jade that we find today.
The Jade can come in a variety of colours and is often found with several metal & mineral inclusions, such as black magnetite, nickel, garnet & diopside.
