Tasmanian Crocoite

$38.00

comes in a labelled specimen box

-

Crocoite is a very rare, orange-red lead chromate crystal found primarily in the Zeehan district on Tasmania's west coast.

Its formation is closely tied to the region's unique geology, which includes lead-rich sedimentary rocks and hydrothermal activity. Crocoite forms in oxidized zones of lead ore deposits when chromium-rich fluids, derived from ultramafic rocks in the area, interact with the lead. The resulting vibrant crystals grow in open cavities.

This Crocoite specimen is formed on a Goethite matrix and come from The Red Lead Mine, at Dundas on the west coast of Tasmania.
